Am I Right For You ?
After twenty-five years experience with all sorts of client, it is clear that the primary concern for most is to have SAFE and EFFECTIVE therapy, with a well-qualified and highly experienced therapist. They would like the work to be as BRIEF as possible, THOROUGH and naturally, at reasonable cost.
I am a FULL-TIME trained UKCP registered therapist with 25 years client experience working from the same home-based practice, at Clapham Common, London SW4.
I am also a member of the former Governing Board ( now Board of Trustees ) of UKCP, am Chair of the Hypno- Psychotherapy Section of UKCP, and have been deeply involved over eight years in standard-setting for the profession and Government-regulated professional standards for psychotherapy. I also hold the European Certificate in Psychotherapy.
Clients often report that they are reassured, even after one session, at how easily and efficiently I have got to grips with their difficulty and are pleased to discover that effective
work can be done so quickly and constructively.
Some are relieved to find a way of 'doing' things to make a change after previous experience of longer-term non-interventionist approaches. Instead, I work robustly and sympathetically, using skills honed over many years to focus practically on actual, present-day problems.
Clients are taught to become observant of themselves in a different way and are encouraged to take specific action of some kind after each session - and to record improvements.
More often I work through a short series of constructive, OUTCOME-ORIENTED sessions. Generally clients make rapid progress.
As a FULL-TIME PRACTITIONER, I am able always to allow the freedom in my working day to provide a quick response with full back-up to clients in difficulties.
Clients frequently want to know "how long it will take"!
This does depend entirely on individual requirements. On average, simple phobias, such as fear of flying, presentation problems, arachnaphobia (fear of spiders), insomnia, stress etc. take between 2-5 sessions.
Individual therapy involving deeper issues, MOSTLY is resolved in around 10 sessions - and couple therapy usually involves 2 or 3 individual sessions and between 8 and 15 joint sessions.
Long experience has proved that a judicious mixture of counseling/ psychotherapeutic & cognitive techniques with a powerful underpinning of Ericksonian hypnotherapy give
the quickest results - but every client's preferences are considered and discussed carefully.
N.B. At the request of clients, particularly from overseas, an intensive five-day COUPLE THERAPY workshop is also available.
