Ericksonian Therapy : -
This work is entirely based on observation and utilisation of natural processes that occur in us all.
We all generate different states of awareness. The language says a lot about it.
Self - consciousness is an over-awareness of internal states. Callousness is a hardening of awareness that prevents us from sympathetically imagining or modeling the reactions of others.
The ability to change our state is what gives us the flexibility to adapt and respond to situations - for good or ill. This involves us in balancing our awareness of a wide range of internal and external states with the data we acquire from the world and others about us - and using these to form our intentions and direct our energies.
Where we are upset by the outcomes we get there is clearly room to improve these processes. Perhaps surprisingly we can even affect the way our bodies respond
and help or heal many physical conditions ! Since the work disconnects us from failed conscious strategies - that we call trying - the client often cannot explain exactly how they have acquired their new reliable ability to do things differently.
Ericksonian work is practiced world-wide - and is well respected by those who encounter it. Its applications, whose principles are well-founded and understood, continually evolve to match the qualities and capacities of each individual.
They require much thought and concentrated awareness on the part of the practitioner, the development of subtle sensitivities and understanding and considerable finesse in their application.
Scientific demonstration of the efficacy of many such procedures is a deep challenge, requiring as much or more ingenuity than the treatment itself !
