- the way we think and what we believe can determine both our psychological and physical reactions.
Often the mind-body system uses physical or behavioural vulnerabilities to dump tensions. These can also function as unconscious defence mechanisms to disguise or distract from other difficulties.
Although epilepsy includes a whole class of neurological difficulties, where the condition is already medically regulated, the frequency and severity of Epileptic episodes often continue to be related to psychological conflict and tension in the sufferer. The frequency of epileptic episodes often relates to patterns of underlying difficulty which can be resolved. Ericksonian work - which pays very careful attention to process details - can successfully identify and relieve many of the tensions that provoke seizures.
Many other conditions commonly thought to be entirely physical can be treated in a similar way. Amongst other conditions, Insomnia, Migraine Headaches, Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS, ME and Arthritis can be profoundly improved or removed through hypnosis. And although not commonly known, hypnosis is used to Induce or Assist Anaesthesia and in Preparation for Major Surgery and Speeding Recovery - a result which has been known since the Crimean War.
